Our mission is to provide high-quality monitoring solutions and services, delivering critical data at an affordable cost

A Brief History of Moniteye

Moniteye began life in January 2010 as Rutland Monitoring Ltd. As the name suggests, we were based between Leicester and Peterborough, near the town of Corby in Northamptonshire.

Back in the heady days of 2010, before we knew Iceland had volcanoes (remember Eyjafjallajökull?), it was industry standard practice to spend hundreds of person hours visiting sites and measuring cracks manually with a calliper.

We saw the need to improve on this in four main areas:

  • Reduce the number of wasted person hours;

  • Improve the rate at which data was collected and thereby facilitate rapid decision making;

  • Reduce the carbon footprint of engineers travelling to sites to complete in-person measurements;

  • Increase health and safety in the monitoring industry by removing personnel from potentially hazardous sites.

With the above in the forefront of our minds, we set about developing a fully-automated crack monitoring system. So our first device was born, with measurements being made every eight hours and an incredibly long-life battery, this system took the industry by storm!

“Moniteye Products started to be developed in around 2006, with the idea that costly visual inspections of important assets could be vastly reduced and replaced by something that could constantly watch for early signs of movement, with greater accuracy, allowing companies to focus on other important areas of their business, safe in the knowledge that our fully automated system would identify and assess structural problems within their assets as and when it happened.”

Alex Keal, Director

This signalled the end of missing important events with lengthy intervals between site visits, as well as hugely reducing ongoing costs for our clients.  No wonder then, with ‘eureka’ moments like this, more was to come!

It can be seen how movement can be missed during manual site visits compared to our automated crack monitor

Since we were growing quickly and monitoring in more diverse locations, it seemed only fitting that we should be reborn as a UK and, ultimately, worldwide monitoring brand. And so, in December 2012, Moniteye was born. Structural monitoring was expanded to include level, target and settlement monitoring, and our new state-of-the-art tilt sensor was developed. We also branched out into environmental monitoring to include noise, vibration, and dust for applications such as demolition and construction sites.

Over the past 14+ years, Moniteye has been involved in some of the most exciting and cutting edge technological advances and projects ever attempted. This stretches from our humble in-house designed and built tilt monitoring devices, to our collaborations with the European Space Agency to bring monitoring well and truly into the 21st century. Thanks to our in-house experts and our collaboration with the European Space Agency, we can offer, amongst other services, InSAR deformation mapping that is out of this world!

In 2022, Moniteye continued its evolution by sistering with SIG Systems. The addition of SIG to the Moniteye family meant that, not only could we monitor your assets and their environment, but we could now monitor your energy usage, gas usage, water usage and waste too.

Owing to our continued growth and investment into future technologies, Moniteye now covers sites worldwide, but is proud to be UK based and dedicated to our domestic market. We have offices in both the Midlands and Oxford, meaning we can service any part of the UK rapidly and professionally.

We have added an arsenal of equipment and expertise to our ranks and can now offer services to monitor your assets ‘from bedrock to rooftop’ including structural, environmental and energy monitoring.

With services this good, why look elsewhere?
